2024 Board Election & Annual Meeting

At the next annual meeting, there will be three positions open for our volunteer board of directors. Each is a three-year term position. The voting will take place in person by paper ballot only at the annual meeting.

1) No nominations will be taken from the floor of the annual meeting.
2) No absentee ballots will be accepted.

 

The following board candidates are listed below with their qualifications:

 

MIKE REYES

Michael (Mike) Reyes is a Quad Cities native. He retired from the U.S. Army, Joint Munitions Command on the Rock Island Arsenal after 30 years of service where he performed project management activities such as programming, budgeting and execution. After his retirement, he worked as a Senior Program Manager for Decision Sciences Inc., in charge of business development, special projects and site management at the Rock Island Arsenal.

Mike is a long-time credit union member and is currently serving as an associate board member for Ascentra. Mike’s passion to improve the quality of life for the community can be witnessed through his participation in various projects and activities over the years. He is a member of the League of United Latin American Citizens, known as LULAC, where he has served as the State Director of Iowa for four years, President of Council 10 for six years and currently serves as the Council 10 Administrator. Mike, a Vietnam era veteran, is currently the commander of the American Legion Post in Rock Island, is a member on the Board of Trustees for the Putnam Museum and was a board member for the Regional Development Authority in Davenport for six years.

Mike enjoys sports, especially watching football (GO HAWKS!) and spending time with his family.

 

GARY SCHOCKER

Gary served a two-year term on Ascentra’s board from 1992 -1994, then returned in February 2000. He’s completed two years at Iowa State, studied accounting at Palmer Junior College and has over 25 years of experience in updating and training on income tax preparation. Gary retired from Alcoa in 2014 where he worked for 30 years. He currently works part-time at Menards and enjoys spending his free time actively involved in his grandchildren's lives and putting 1,000+ piece puzzles together with his wife.

His volunteer activities include serving as a soccer official, a former Dad's Club member, choir member for his local church and member of Barbershop Harmony Society (close harmony a cappella style music).

On Ascentra’s board, Gary serves as the Audit Committee Chairperson and the Cyber Security Committee Secretary. In the past, he has served as a member of the Executive,  Building, Credit, Personnel, Nominating, Disaster Recovery & IT Technology and Board Policy Updates Committees.  

 

ROBERT LEE

Robert is a resident of Bettendorf and is retired from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa.

He has been an Ascentra Credit Union member for 28 years. Robert is a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam. After retirement, Robert served several organizations as a volunteer including past Chairperson of the Downtown Davenport Partnership, former President of Hilltop Campus Village, a Main Street Iowa urban district, former Chairperson and current board member of the Illowa Council, Boy Scouts of America; and board member of Bettendorf Business Network. He has also worked part time for NelsonCorp Wealth Management in a Community Relations capacity.

Robert joined the Ascentra Credit Union Board of Directors as an associate member in 2017 and as a Board Director in 2021. Robert and his wife, Joyce, have three children and four grandchildren.
