Taking a Road Trip During a Pandemic

Summer vacation looks different this year. Below are some planning tips recommended by consumerreports.org for you to consider before loading up the car and heading down the road.

What’s open? Many businesses, hotels, parks, and attractions are still closed or operating at 50 percent capacity. Call ahead to make sure your destination is open on the dates you are visiting.
Face mask. Take a supply for each traveler. In public, they should be worn even if social distancing seems to be in place.
Look ahead. Travel restrictions may be in place and you’ll need to plan accordingly.
Who are you visiting? If visiting friends and/or family, make sure you know who’s at a higher risk.
Pack your own sanitation. Disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizers, and toilet paper may be in short supply. Bring your own, to make sure they are available at all times.
Cover your hands. Use disposable gloves or wipes when touching gas pumps and handles. If you don’t have disposable gloves, pack used grocery bags as a replacement.
Automotive Maintenance. Prepare your vehicle before leaving. If needed, look for businesses that can perform oil changes and maintenance while you stay in the car.
