Ascentra Credit Union Invests $7,500 in New Rock Island Community Resource Center

  • Mar 26, 2026

Ascentra Credit Union is proud to announce a $7,500 donation to Serving Humanity Beyond Humility (SHBH), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting family growth, emotional support, and community strength in Rock Island. This contribution supports SHBH’s efforts to open a new community outreach facility designed to serve veterans, children, and the elderly by providing access to food, showers, shelter, laundry, and educational services.

SHBH’s facility is strategically located in the West Central Rock Island neighborhood, a growing “resource island” surrounded by organizations focused on revitalization and support services. This location aligns closely with Ascentra Credit Union’s long-standing commitment to investing in neighborhoods where members live, work, and thrive.

“Strong communities are built when essential needs are met with dignity and compassion,” said Linda Andry, President and CEO, Ascentra Credit Union. “SHBH is doing vital work to support some of our most vulnerable neighbors, and we are honored to support their mission as they work toward opening their doors.”

Before opening, SHBH must complete essential facility improvements and generate additional funding to fully launch the next stage of operations. Ascentra’s donation helps move this critical project forward while also raising awareness of the ongoing need for community support.

Beyond financial support, Ascentra Credit Union is exploring opportunities for employee volunteerism. SHBH has identified immediate needs for assistance with facility cleanup and organization following construction, as well as future volunteer opportunities once the center is operational.

“Partnerships like this demonstrate what’s possible when organizations come together with a shared purpose,” said LaTonya Terrell of SHBH. “Ascentra’s support brings us one step closer to opening a space where people can find help, hope, and human connection.”

Ascentra Credit Union remains committed to empowering communities through financial support, volunteerism, and strategic investment that strengthens the communities it serves.
