Ascentra Credit Union opened its doors in 1950 to serve the employees and family members of its sponsor company, Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA), located in Riverdale, IA. Since that time, the credit union has expanded its field of membership to a community charter including anyone working or living in any of the following counties. Iowa: Cedar, Clinton, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott and Washington; in Illinois: Carroll, Henry, Jo Daviess, Knox, Mercer, Peoria, Rock Island and Whiteside. The credit union also offers membership to over 150 large and small businesses referred to as Select Employee Groups (SEGs). Credit Union membership is open to the employees, retirees and family members of these companies. Once you become a member you are welcome to remain a member for life, regardless of whether you change jobs, move, or retire.
As a democratically controlled not-for-profit cooperative, each member of Ascentra Credit Union owns one share in the credit union. Members may vote for the eleven-member volunteer board of directors. Any member may run for a seat on the board if they are at least 18 years old and a member in good standing.
Your deposits are federally insured to at least $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government National Credit Union Administration, a U.S. Government Agency.
